NSFOCUS Launches DDoS MitigationACT Solution Series for Hosting Providers

December 5th, 2013 by THN News No comments »

(The Hosting News) – NSFOCUS, Inc., a global provider of solutions for distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) detection and mitigation, today announced its MitigationACT Solution Series to help small- to medium-sized hosting providers overcome implementation barriers related to DDoS mitigation. The MitigationACT Solution Series combines equipment, training and ongoing consultation to offer hosting providers a turnkey solution to deliver comprehensive in-house DDoS protection for their customers.

To help hosting providers establish stronger and more cost-effective anti-DDoS solutions, the MitigationACT Solution Series includes NSFOCUS’ Anti-DDoS System (ADS) 4020 series product, which can mitigate attacks of up to 10 Gbps, and NSFOCUS’ Managed Security Service (MSS), which complements the ADS4020 series with dedicated monitoring from NSFOCUS’ cloud-based network security operation centers around the world with 24/7 access to a DDoS expert, and ongoing support and training. Hosting providers’ on-premise NSFOCUS equipment is augmented with additional mitigation capacity via NSFOCUS’ scrubbing centers in North America.

“As our NSFOCUS Mid-Year DDoS Threat Report 2013 shows, DDoS attacks are more common and complex than ever before, which means that businesses of all sizes are at risk. DDoS protection is now a matter of customer retention and a key differentiation strategy for hosting providers. Oftentimes, small- to medium-sized hosting providers turn to security service providers because they think their options are limited, and they wind up paying too much for their needs,” said Frank Ip, vice president of U.S. Operations for NSFOCUS. “We identified a gap in the market that the MitigationACT Solution Series bridges by offering organizations a scalable, effective and economical way to protect against DDoS attacks.”

Microsoft To Encrypt Data In Its Services To Protect Users

December 5th, 2013 by THN News No comments »

(The Hosting News) – As an attempt to reassure users of their stride to protect their personal data, Microsoft plans to encrypt data through all of its services, announced the company Wednesday night.

In recent months, many top technological companies such as Apple and Google have taken measures to protect users from allegations of snooping from governments and foreign agencies.

“In light of these allegations, we’ve decided to take immediate and coordinated action in three areas: We are expanding encryption across our services. We are reinforcing legal protections for our customers’ data. We are enhancing the transparency of our software code, making it easier for customers to reassure themselves that our products do not contain back doors,” wrote General Counsel of Microsoft, Brad Smith, via a press release.

The expanded encryption will be included in the company’s top services such as Outlook, Office 365, SkyDrive, and Windows Azure, as well as all “customer-created content.”

Additionally, Microsoft intends to enhance legal protections by notifying all customers when a legal order for their data is filed. If the company is prohibited from notifying customers of this, then they will challenge it in court, continues the press release.

“We all want to live in a world that is safe and secure, but we also want to live in a country that is protected by the Constitution. We want to ensure that important questions about government access are decided by courts rather than dictated by technological might.”
